I have a fabulous prize for one

bookmarks and pens.
Living minutes from the beach, my
natural inclination is to escape the heat and head for cool coastal breezes. I
live on the central coast of California, exactly half way between San Francisco
and Los Angeles. It's beautiful here, and the beaches are pristine.
However, there's one little problem
with visiting the idyllic beach on Independence Day.
It becomes a volatile warzone!
Not a place for a family picnic, eh?
Most beaches in California won't get
this crazy on July 4th, only the ones that allow fireworks or have pyrotechnic
displays of awesomeness.
We usually trek to a small, sleepy
beach community, population 3,100.
On a clear night, we can see the
firework show happening farther down the coast, where the partiers are launching
cherry bombs and bottle rockets at each other. But this is a family beach where
aromas of charcoal briquettes and bbq mix with the sounds of crashing surf and laughing
children.
What are your plans for Independence
Day? I'd like to hear about them!
Remedy Maker – coming July 27, 2012,
from Ruby Lioness Press.
Blurb:
Man
by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his own healing.
He's
the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress
disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then
a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his
secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.
Patience
is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works
as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.
Environmental
pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is
slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out
to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught
her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He
doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.
When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability
to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares,
and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint
venture into a deadly bout.
Will their love endure when
survival hinges on trusting each other?
That beach pic is crazy!
ReplyDeleteIt's our first July 4th in our new home, so the hubster and I are just going to hang out, grill some bratwurst, drink some beer, and see if we can see the fireworks from the lake down the hill from our yard ;)
(info@micahpersell.com)
That's MY idea of a great 4th! Enjoy it well :)and thanks for coming by!
DeleteI spend the day with my American firends living here in Helsinki. I'm invited to their party.
ReplyDeleteParty down, Tessa!
DeleteRemedy Maker really does sound awesome, Sheri! Looking forward to checking it out. As for the 4th, I think I'll just be lazy that day. :) Have a wonderful 4th of July, chicklette!
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the books to arrive is like the 9th month of pregnancy. LOL We'll both be lazy on the 4th :)
DeleteLOL, holy hell, that crowded beach pic looks nutty. Yeah, I'd stay away from there too.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th.
brenda_dyer212@hotmail.com
People dig trenches and holes and it's a war-zone. NOT safe for kids. But the other beach is cool and the parents jump butts when partiers get out of hand. Thanks for coming by!!
DeleteWow, I got some heart palpitations just looking at your normally pristine beach on July 4th. YIKES. Since the 4th is on a Wednesday this year (who planned that dumb day anyway) we're doing the fireworks celebration in Traverse City the following weekend. Camping, beach, fireworks, mall, summer blockbuster at the IMAX. Good times, good times. Enjoy your day at the SECLUDED locale sweet thing! :D
ReplyDeleteHehehe - like the sweet thing :) Never been to an IMAX theatre, none around here. I heard Sat. 7/7 is trash pickup day at the beach. lol Have a geat 4th!!
DeleteHoly wow!
ReplyDeleteSince Colorado is under a no-burn ban, there are no fireworks this year. Usually my daughter and I climb up on the horsetrailer and watch two town's worth. We'll probably grill some hamburgers.
horses5@frontier.net
With all the fires you folks are having, I think there's enough fireworks going on! Enjoy those burgers.
DeleteI am spending the day eating and swimming with my family and when it gets dark I'm taking my grandkids to watch the fireworks.
ReplyDeleteproudarmymom32(at)yahoo(dot)com
That sounds like a wonderful day. I hope you enjoy it!
DeleteThe beach looks AMAZING! The crowds not so much. Great post! Can't wait for Remedy Maker!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kary! That is one of favorite beaches to ditch at. The waves can be totally tubular, too. :)
DeleteNice post, Sheri. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Rosa! Thank you!
Deletewow that beach looks like Waikiki. Crazy! How peaceful, the other beaches. Hope u have an awesome independent day!
ReplyDeleteI went to Waikiki in the off-season and it was nice. LOL The craziness is only a few times a year, thank goodness. Hope your holiday is fantastic.
DeleteNice jib Sherri!

Happy 4th of July! My plans are to have a big family BBQ and then do some fireworks. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteflava_sava_chick@yahoo.com
The California central coastline is really lovely. The photo with the crowds makes you want to stay home. Plan to eat some BBQ and relax. Your blurb was very interesting with a man/centuar and a wood nymph.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy July 4th and thanks for the giveaway.
strive4bst at yahoo dot com
It's beautiful, rugged, and party central a few times a year! Be safe. Hope you find time to read Remedy Maker!
DeleteI plan on spending a long lazy day with my husband. I can't wait!
ReplyDeletesandy(dot)wolters(at)q(dot)com
Sandy - that sounds like a great idea to me!
DeleteWe have two days of independence. One is Emancipation day and there is a big party at Magens Bay Beach. On the 4th St John holds it's carnival. We either go over there or watch the fireworks from St Thomas. Happy 4th
ReplyDeleteI'd LOVE to be at St. Thomas on the 4th!!
DeleteThough I love the beach, that pic is just crazy. I'm with you. I'll stick to the backyard pool with the BBQ to scent the air, my g'babies laughter as background music, and the company of good friends to warm my heart.
ReplyDeleteGreat blurb, by the way.
maccrowne@gmail.com
We gave up fighting the crowd and traffic a long time ago. Happy 4th!
DeleteI'll probably go down to the waterfront to watch the fireworks.
ReplyDeletethrouthehaze at gmail dot com
Thanks for the giveaway! I'm going to a family cookout for the 4th.
ReplyDeletestephward84(at)hotmail(dot)com
I plan on spending the day at a friends house floating on a pool chair while BBQ some chicken and veggies and just letting the dogs run around and be dogs for a day (instead of working)! Going to be nice and peaceful!
ReplyDeleteMarla
Floating sounds voonderbar! How much do you wanna bet the dogs jump in the pool? LOL Have a great 4th!
DeleteDue to the extreme heat in my area, I'm staying home and keeping cool with a good book or two. They've even cancelled the fireworks due to the excessive dryness.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun and safe 4th!
acm05atjuno.com
If the fireworks show wasn't shot out over the ocean, they'd cancel them here, too. Hope I can add to your TBR for next year!
DeleteLove the beach!!!! Thanks so much! I love watching the fireworks with the kids! They get so excited!!!
ReplyDeleteforettarose@yahoo.com
I so envy you for leaving near a beach. We're stuck in the Midwest and we have plenty of lakes in the area, but nothing is as fun to me as hanging out in the ocean waves.
ReplyDeleteHehehe, there's a 30 foot great white hanging out just beyond the breakers for the past 3 days. Maybe he's waiting for the 4th of July . . . Thanks for coming by!
DeleteWe live hours from the East Coast, so we will be taking our children to the lake to swim. There is a man-made beach and a playground, grills and paddle boats. I am looking forward to spending some family time with my husband and kids.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any plans since my son is visiting his other grandparents, so just going to stay out of the hot outside and read a good book.
ReplyDeletevampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
I live in South Florida. Our beaches look the same on July 4th. Stopped going to them long ago. Spending the day with hubby & kids. Nothing specific planned
ReplyDeleteWolphcall(at)bellsouth(dot)net
Love your book cover. Your book sounds really good. Don't think I could go to that beach when it's crowed. Yikes. We are just staying inside as the heat around her is over 100 with the heat index. Too hot to grill. Of course the meat would probably grill itself today. LOL. Happy 4th.

katsrus(at)gmail(dot)com
Heading to the next town over. They do the whole small town parade, BBQ and fireworks show. It's great every year.

Thanks Sheri
I can't wait to read this! Thank you for the chance to win :)
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of july

That beach pic is ridiculous! My plans include watching fireworks than a movie :)
ReplyDeletetiger-chick-1(at)hotmail(dot)com

I agree with you! I also live near some great beaches in NC and I wouldn't go near them today. The tourists are here! The tourists are here! I probably won't hit the beach again until September. My hubby and I stay in and coccoon.
ReplyDeleteHappy July 4th!
