A Day At The Beach

Welcome to the 4th of July blog hop! To find others participating in the hop, just click on the blog hop image.

I have a fabulous prize for one lucky commenter, so don't forget to leave your email address! Among other goodies, my swag pack includes bookmarks and pens.

Living minutes from the beach, my natural inclination is to escape the heat and head for cool coastal breezes. I live on the central coast of California, exactly half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It's beautiful here, and the beaches are pristine.

However, there's one little problem with visiting the idyllic beach on Independence Day.

It becomes a volatile warzone!

Not a place for a family picnic, eh?

Most beaches in California won't get this crazy on July 4th, only the ones that allow fireworks or have pyrotechnic displays of awesomeness.

We usually trek to a small, sleepy beach community, population 3,100.

On a clear night, we can see the firework show happening farther down the coast, where the partiers are launching cherry bombs and bottle rockets at each other. But this is a family beach where aromas of charcoal briquettes and bbq mix with the sounds of crashing surf and laughing children.

What are your plans for Independence Day? I'd like to hear about them!

Remedy Maker – coming July 27, 2012, from Ruby Lioness Press.

Blurb:

Man by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his own healing.

He's the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.

Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.

Environmental pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.

When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a deadly bout.

Will their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?

  1. That beach pic is crazy!
It's our first July 4th in our new home, so the hubster and I are just going to hang out, grill some bratwurst, drink some beer, and see if we can see the fireworks from the lake down the hill from our yard ;)

    1. People dig trenches and holes and it's a war-zone. NOT safe for kids. But the other beach is cool and the parents jump butts when partiers get out of hand. Thanks for coming by!!

  5. Wow, I got some heart palpitations just looking at your normally pristine beach on July 4th. YIKES. Since the 4th is on a Wednesday this year (who planned that dumb day anyway) we're doing the fireworks celebration in Traverse City the following weekend. Camping, beach, fireworks, mall, summer blockbuster at the IMAX. Good times, good times. Enjoy your day at the SECLUDED locale sweet thing! :D

  6. Holy wow!
Since Colorado is under a no-burn ban, there are no fireworks this year. Usually my daughter and I climb up on the horsetrailer and watch two town's worth. We'll probably grill some hamburgers.

  16. The California central coastline is really lovely. The photo with the crowds makes you want to stay home. Plan to eat some BBQ and relax. Your blurb was very interesting with a man/centuar and a wood nymph.

Have a Happy July 4th and thanks for the giveaway.

  18. We have two days of independence. One is Emancipation day and there is a big party at Magens Bay Beach. On the 4th St John holds it's carnival. We either go over there or watch the fireworks from St Thomas. Happy 4th

  19. Though I love the beach, that pic is just crazy. I'm with you. I'll stick to the backyard pool with the BBQ to scent the air, my g'babies laughter as background music, and the company of good friends to warm my heart.

    Great blurb, by the way.

  23. Due to the extreme heat in my area, I'm staying home and keeping cool with a good book or two. They've even cancelled the fireworks due to the excessive dryness.

Have a fun and safe 4th!

  27. I don't have any plans since my son is visiting his other grandparents, so just going to stay out of the hot outside and read a good book.

  29. Love your book cover. Your book sounds really good. Don't think I could go to that beach when it's crowed. Yikes. We are just staying inside as the heat around her is over 100 with the heat index. Too hot to grill. Of course the meat would probably grill itself today. LOL. Happy 4th.
